A couple people reached out after my last trip telling me that they read my blog and enjoyed it – so cool to hear stuff like this, thank you for reading!
I’ve heard so many great things about Mexico City and I want to eat and drink my way through it, stopping for tacos, Frida Khalo, hot air balloons, and luchador wrestling. It’s been on my list of places to visit for a while – I love exploring international cities in particular, and as a solo traveler it can feel like there’s something around every corner.
I know I said I was going to write more since my trip last October – still trying to figure out what is the most interesting to read about (hint: not my indecisiveness!)
Brief TLDR of what I’ve been up to since we last spoke: I redid my website, went on an aircraft carrier across the Pacific Ocean for a week (I SHOULD HAVE WRITTEN ABOUT THIS), started a sketch writing class, nailed an improv audition and bombed another, and saw Lady Gaga at the Mayhem Ball. Currently I am waiting for the impending doom of losing my job to AI, doing more improv (just had my 100th show 🤓), and my head is shiny and new because I am “B”ald.
I think on my last trip I started asking myself what I want out of the next 5 years – clock’s ticking and I don’t really have the answers still. I’m looking for clarity via saying quiet things out loud and documenting everything: I just started tracking my sleep and reviewing my score has become my little morning treat. I write out all my improv scenes after shows (actually really embarrassing), I’m being more open with my friends! More therapy! More career conversations at work!
I feel like a medium sized fish in a big fish pond. I ask myself things like “How do I become more legible?”, “Is there more to [thing that sparks joy or pays bills] than just showing up?” or “Which smaller fishes’ essence can I absorb to increase my tail length?”
Sadly this trip is not another sabbatical. It’ll be a clean cut long weekend trip. A limited break of sorts! And! It’s a solo trip which I am really excited about. I used to do way more solo travel (twice in 2019) but I realized I haven’t given myself many opportunities to do so since moving to New York, starting work, and being in a relationship. Traveling alone is exhilarating and I think more people should consider it (note: I am a white man).
Anyway this trip blog will be another daily entry sort of thang. Should be cool for me to write and for you to possibly enjoy. ¡Salud!
