I time warped back
I’m back stateside and the jet lag is wild.
10/30 x2
Today, Hallow’s Eve (Mischief Night if you’re in PA) I got an extra 17 hours (quick math here, just go with it) of the day, leaving at 9:40AM local time and arriving at 5:00AM on the same day.
I sat next to Julie, a Grandmother from Seattle-ish area visiting her daughter who started her own family in Sydney. We kept pace with each other and went wine for wine the entire flight, chuckling at our frugality and insisting to each other that we’re still on vacation.
I once again watched the live action Lilo & Stitch and after getting a few decent hours of rest (sleep until Hunk of Burning Love starts playing at credits, scrub to beginning, fall asleep again), I think I get the gist of the movie now. And unfortunately it wasn’t that I had fallen asleep during key moments, it simply is just poorly edited IMO.
Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood is getting WILD in part 2. I have no idea how they made 3 more parts of the show since it feels like things are kinda wrapping up already. But it’s good.
My brother, Collin, was kind enough to pick me up at LAX so early in the morning. It was high energy for about 5 minutes before I confessed that I desperately needed at least 3-4 hours of sleep before we do anything fun in LA.
Shoutout to the team over at AllTrails for making a pretty solid freemium hiking application. Collin and I drove over to Franklin Canyon for a short-but-not-too-short hike (2 miles lol). I’ve been in LA a few times now over the past few years and I think the vibe is hikes. Like that’s the thing people do here for fun. It’s so random.
Afternoon was final laundry of the trip and hanging at the pool. Meanwhile it’s 50 something Fahrenheit in NYC? :0
What I ate
I think I ate 3 hot meals and several snacks + wines on the flight. There’s a special place in my heart for the cheesey mushroom “Pizza” Delta has on the longer flights that just hit. Just give me some melted cheese and a spoon tbh and I’ll be alright. The pepper quiche can stay too.
On our little LA moment hike we ate some coldcut roast beef sandwiches and I know it’s a bit cliche at this point but coldcuts x doing something outside featuring a little chip action is a state of spiritual blessedness.
At dinner we linked up with the final cousin, our first cousin John, for Korean skewers. We hadn’t seen John in a long time so it was great to catch up over gochujang shirt rib and scallop dynamite. And the spot was cool too so shoutout the plug (Collin) for the rec.
I know NYC has a Salt & Straw now but I just had to get a fixing out here with the Halloween menu, because the Jack O Lantern Pumpkin Bread ice cream is oh so spooooky!
We were feeling halloween-y so we grabbed a bottle of Grateful Dead Chardonnay and watched Scream 2, satiating my month long craving for festivities.
What’s next
Halloween day and I think we’re going to the Grammies museum. Linking up with some friends and a possible murder mystery party with some randos? (aka Collin’s friends)
