Our Shibuya Haul
New jeans alert
Top of mind
Tired! Maybe will have more to say once I start editing this one.
Editor’s note: I was actively falling asleep writing this one* so no I did not have more to elaborate on.
10/7
We made our way pretty far out in the morning to Gotokuji, a Buddhist temple out in western Tokyo known for it’s gigantic collection of maneki-neko (think lucky cat with one paw up). No Goshuins here but the weather was choice and it was nice to be outside.
We spent essentially the rest of the day shopping in Shibuya, it was kinda mid vibes but we got some good hauls.
Editor’s note: Central Shibuya (and most areas around major transportation hubs) are like Times Square level intensities but with better food and a tiny bit less noise.
Personally I found myself in the raw denim motherland and copped this sweet pair of jeans per this interaction:
Aidan: “Kore wa watashinökiniiri no jinzudesu. Mainichi haite imasu.”
(Translation: These are my favorite pair of jeans. I wear them every day)
Denim man: “haha”
Oh and Oasis is in town actually this week? So there was a bunch of Oasis stuff going on in the area and at Adidas. So spoiler alert for my mom and my brother for their Christmas gift this year.
What I ate
We really need to do better about meal coordination because our eating schedule is often:
Eat snacks from 7-Eleven for breakfast
Do not eat lunch until 3 or 4PM
Since lunch was so late eat snacks for dinner from 7-Eleven in the evening
So today we had Oyster Ramen for dunch and it was pretty good! I doused mine in cracked pepper (standard pepper here) and lemon juice. The american couple sitting across from us clearly did not know how to use chopsticks and it was pretty funny seeing them attempt to twirl the noodles around the sticks like spaghetti.
Personally I’ve found the 7-Elevens in Kyoto to be vastly superior to the ones in Tokyo. I haven’t seen a single cheese curry bun anywhere here and my heart is broken. However they do have a “warm” aisle, which is bottled coffee and tea kept hot on purchase. I had this caramel hot tea and it was aiite.
We hit up this hidden spot in Ginza for drinks* and it was sick. Shochu and sake drinks infused with our favs like sansho pepper, sesame, etc (too tired to keep listing).
Rather than a proper dinner I ran a convenience store crawl from 7-Eleven to Family Mart to Natural Lawson, completing the tri fecta of gas-station-food-but-good spots. Tonights spread was potato chips and bbq corn things that looked like cheetos and they both slapped incredibly hard. 2 fiber shots, some sweets, our favorite 2 ice creams (IYKYK) and some hot window fried chicken which I’m coming around to.
In bed by 8PM for an early day tomorrow. I didn’t have time to work out this morning and my back is KILLING me.
What’s next
Tomorrow we get up early for DisneySea and I don’t think I will particularly have much to say about the park beyond a sentence or two. Maybe I’ll write about other parts of the trip, TBD.
